Leo Babauta of Zen Habits

Now here’s a positive person who has A LOT to say (ironically, as he claims to be minimalist !). The minimalist approach is definitely worth reading up on. This will give a little more info. Leo (I hope I may call him that) has another site Zen habits… I’m keener on mnmlist, though. The quotes here are something else.

In case you think I said too much, Mr Babauta keeps it SnS: http://mnmlist.com/50-words/

Donating to Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.

Today we decided to do something ‘good’ and ‘positive’. No prizes for guessing what (assuming you read the title). Truly useful websites are rare. Not-for-profit websites rarer still. So donating to Wikimedia Foundation was our good action for the day.

So, our Positive Person for the day is Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia. Or maybe it is us. For donating !

Here’s what they say:

Google might have close to a million servers. Yahoo has something like 13,000 staff. We have 400 servers and 95 staff.

Wikipedia is the #5 site on the web and serves 454 million different people every month – with billions of page views.

Commerce is fine. Advertising is not evil. But it doesn’t belong here. Not in Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is something special. It is like a library or a public park. It is like a temple for the mind. It is a place we can all go to think, to learn, to share our knowledge with others.

When I founded Wikipedia, I could have made it into a for-profit company with advertising banners, but I decided to do something different. We’ve worked hard over the years to keep it lean and tight. We fulfill our mission, and leave waste to others.

If everyone reading this donated $20, we would only have to fundraise for one day a year. But not everyone can or will donate. And that’s fine. Each year just enough people decide to give.

This year, please consider making a donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever you can to protect and sustain Wikipedia.

Thanks,

Jimmy Wales

Wikipedia Founder

Elie Bernager Wedding photographer

Photographer Indian Ocean

After completing his studies at Arts Déco (ENSAD) in Paris, Elie travelled the world for numerous clients: Figaro Magazine, Grands Reportages, Sygma press, to name but a few. He then chose to concentrate on fashion and beauty photography. For more than 15 years he worked for the Marie-Claire group (Avantages, Cosmopolitan, Familie, Votre Beauté), giving him the opportunity to shoot magnificent portraits for Harcourt Studio. Solicited by some of the world’s renowned photographic agencies such as Getty Images and Corbis, he began to focus on shooting character and life style photographs, mostly in South Africa. His photographs can be seen in numerous press and advertising campaigns worldwide.
On September 11 2001 he moved his family to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, with a vision to live a completely different lifestyle. It was on this beautiful island that he had the idea to offer his many years of experience in fashion photography to newly-weds, and to create “an unforgettable photographic moment” that captures this very special time in their lives.

PHILOSOPHY

To transform the traditional set of typical wedding photos into a truly memorable event, that lives up to a couple’s dream of elegance, beauty and joy. To provide an exquisite photographic keepsake to the couple that is as exceptional as their wedding itself and that captures the essences of their unforgettable honeymoon in Mauritius.

All my professional life, I have concentrated on photographing actors, models and celebrities. Then some close friends here in Mauritius asked me to photograph their wedding. It was then that I rediscovered, through the complicity of shaping and sharing such an intimate and emotional event, the true pleasure of photography. Better still, it is a wonderful way of making new friends, making them happy simply by doing my work as a photographer in an atmosphere of joy and happiness.

Margaret Yúfera-Leitch, Hon. BA., MSc., PhD

With over 65% of the adult population suffering from being overweight, it is clear that thoughtful and unique strategies are needed…We need to understand why we are eating too much, and how to stop doing so.

The objective of Margaret’s Impulsive Eating site is to give context to all psychological aspects of obesity. Her professional and academic career are devoted to understanding eating motivation.

You will not find a single pseudo scientific post: empricial proof can be tough to find, but there is lots of it in the world of Obesity Research. And she finds it !

Her years in academia were devoted to:

  • psychometric test development
  • human learning and food preference
  • impulsivity and overeating

Ms. Yúfera-Leitch regularly publishes work in peer reviewed journals, international newspapers, and on her blog (three times a week).

Her expertise becomes particularly useful given the complexity of the current obesity pandemic. The interdisciplinary approach she uses focuses on the complex interplay that is confusing your recognition of ‘true’ hunger signals. Once you understand how and why you might be eating for pleasure, you’ll have a better idea of how to stop it.

If you have issues related to pleasure driven eating, binge type eating, or simply are curious about your dependency on chocolate cake, you really should visit Margaret’s site.
